Why Do We Forget Our Dreams? #betterlife

Have you ever woken up after a deep sleep to realise that you’ve been dreaming, yet you can’t seem to remember what about? 💭 💭

Well, you’re not alone.

Dreams and forgetfulness tend to go hand in hand, making for a pretty frustrating morning as we try to rack our brains for the plot line of our night time dalliance.

So, why do we forget our dreams, and is there a technique to remembering them?

Take a look below…

The debate is still undecided as to why we forget the dreams that we encounter during the night, but there are plenty of theories floating around.

One theory is that our brains simply forget about events that it does not find to be of any significance.

Our minds only store information from the day which feels relevant, and a dream made up of imaginary events seems lacking in importance.

Another theory centres on the idea that there are certain types of people who have the skill to recall certain dreams, with a study showing that people who tended to wake more often in the night having the ability to recognise the names of people they knew whilst dreaming.

Although this study had limited results, it did show us one thing, there is a way to remember dreams, mostly through a technique.

Discover how to remember dreams below…

A key tip for remembering a dream is to prolong the amount of time we spend awake during the night.

If you awaken after a dream in the middle of the night, it’s important to spend time on recalling the dream, therefore consolidating it into memory.

Restless nights are never good for anyone, yet just taking a few moments in the time before falling back to sleep to recall the dream can mean that it will be cemented into memory by the morning.
